| Hagemans, an artist of the Belgian school, was primarily a landscape and animal artist, working with watercolors and pastels. He debuted in Brussels around 1873, and then traveled around Germany and Norway with his friend Felicien Rops in 1876. Hagemans moved himself and his family to Antwerp in 1884, where he focused on improving his talents as a seascape painter. Returning to Brussels in 1887, he decided to devote himself entirely to watercolor landscapes, and became good friends with the painter Lucien Frank.. A master of the technique, Hagemans exhibited several times in Paris, and was made a Knight of the order of Leopold. In 1892, he executed four panels ordered by Leopold II for his castle. He showed his work also in cities such as Budapest, Milan, Antwerp, and Chicago, and his lovely pastoral scenes can be found in public and private collections around the globe.
