Alpine, Alpine, Alpine Valley....I waslooking forward to this one for quite some time. Alpine was the firstplace that Penny and I
saw a full-band show, and ever since it's been my favorite (followed by DeerCreek). Alpine is a tricky place - it fills you with mixed emotions.
We always park in the Green Lot, because we always get out of there fairlyquick...but if you park in the Green Lot, you face the hike from hell
to the venue. It starts out ERROR MSGas adownhill trek, but soon becomes an uphill battle...leaving you winded by thetime you finish. Then, once you
get inside, it's a long walk to the pavilion. Which isn't too bad, although the hill is steep. But once you get down to the bottom, the view
behind you is spectacular. It's like a sea of people in every direction.
We headed inside about 7:45 or so,just in time to catch Corey Harris' last tune. He was really decent. We were 2nd row center, and the view
from that seat at Alpine is fantastic. The stage is right there - notpushed back 5 or so feet like at some pavilions. When the boys came out,the
crowd erupted. They all seemed very happy and ready to rock out. Tripping Billies is a great opener - lots of energy. The set was a lot offun -
with the obvious highlight of the night being Stir It Up. Stefan seemed tobe fooling around with his into to Watchtower, and then the crowd caught
on to what he was playing, and began singing, "Stir it up...little darlin'stir it up." After a few glances to each other, the band counted offand went into
a full band rendition of the Marley classic. Everyone wentballistic. It was so much fun.
Saturday night was a blast....and we could only wonderwhat Sunday had in store for us....
