Goffart Published by Zutphen-Schillemans & van Belkum During the Victorian period, animal pictures and portraits were very popular. Many artists made depictions of animals their specialty. ERROR MSGEerelman was a watercolorist, sketcher, and animal and genre scene painter active in the Netherlands at the turn of the century, studying under J.H. Egenberger at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. In 1867 he studied in Paris at the Antwerp Academy, as well as in Brussels from 1874 to 1876. Eerelman lived in The Hague and Arnhem, and then returned to Groningen in 1907, where he taught at the Minerva Academy. He most often focused on horses and canines. This print is from a portfolio of forty-one prints in which Eerelman illustrated many different breeds of horse. The color lithographs were accompanied by text by J. L. Goffart that described each breeds attributes.
