| Cauchois was a pupil of the famous French academic painter Alexandre Cabanel, whose Birth of Venus in the 1863 Paris Salon was far more popular, and conservative, than Manets Olympia. Cauchois was also a student of Duboc and Quost, and showed at the Paris salon from 1874. He won medals for his work in 1898, 1900, 1904. His work was extremely popular, and he became a member of the Artistes Francais in 1890. Cauchois style typifies the style most approved of at the turn of the century. He generally painted beautiful and decorative subject matter in rich colors with a robust stroke. His florals in particular are widely acclaimed, as is his impressionistic manner of painting.
