Didier, an artist of the French school, was an extremely well-trained individual, having studied under the awesome Gerome, as well as under Leon Glaize and the well-known landscape artist Emmanuel Lansyer. He painted primarily portraits and genre scenes, as well as landscapes. Debuting at the Salon in 1880 with a portrait piece, Didier would come to exhibit there often. Recognized initially for his landscape paintings of scenes of mountains in the Alps, he was an artist in a sort of direct conversation with nature. It was with his highly acclaimed genre scenes, however, that he was able to make such a reputation for himself, depicting the restful hours of domestic life painted in an academic yet anecdotal manner.
