Born in Couillet, Belgium, Cambier was a painter of figures, landscapes, and still lifes. He was a pupil of Gustave Vanaise, a pioneering artist in the noted "Les XX" group who experimented with modernist techniques and pushed the boundaries of art in Belgium at the turn of the century.

Cambier began exhibiting in 1901 in Belgium. Shortly after that, he left for an extended trip to America and Great Britain. Between 1906 and 1909, he worked on a commission to create the stained glass windows for the Newark Cathedral. In 1910, Cambier participated in the Universal Exposition of Brussels with a painting entitled "Dolce fariente". He then traveled to England where he lived and worked from 1914 to 1922. During his stay there, he worked as a portrait artist. He became a highly regarded portraitist and a favorite of the aristocrats and celebrities of the time. Cambier is represented in museums throughout Belgium.
