- The Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode has been used in the retail industry in the US and Canada since 1973. The European Article Numbering System (EAN) is a superset of U.P.C. ISBN and Bookland is an implementation of the EAN barcode with a 5 digit supplement.
The UPC and EAN symbols are used on product packages to uniquely identify a product and manufacturer. - ERROR MSGThe UPC/EAN barcode font was created according to UCC and European (EN 797) standards. All symbols of this barcode specification are in the font including human readable characters and add-on symbols.

- Our implementation of this font allows a single font to produce all UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, EAN-14, JAN & ISBN barcodes.
- The TrueType version of the UPC/EAN barcode font is compatible with all versions of Microsoft Windows including Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000.
- The UPC/EAN barcode font package also includes two PostScript versions of the UPC/EAN barcode font. Binary and ASCII versions of PostScript (type 1) are provided.
