An artist of the British school, Davis most often executed genre scenes, urban cityscapes, animals, and hunting scenes. Most often recognized for paintings of the latter category, he exhibited in London from 1877 to 1884 at venues such as the Suffolk Street Gallery, where he showed some six canvases, in addition to various and sundry other locales. In his work, Davis spent much of his efforts focusing on the anatomy and movement of both animals and people, always striving to make them appear accurate. Also of interest to him was the effect of different kinds of light both on landscapes and interiors. His skill as a painter is immediately recognizable, and this has earned him a lasting place in the history of art.
