Berthe Art depicted animals, landscapes and portraits, but most often flowers. She was a student of Alfred Stevens in Paris for some time. Most of her works are pastels, but she also used oils from time to time. Art exhibited quite regularly, most notably at the Royal Academy in London, at the Salon in Paris, and in Munich. She participated as well in the 1910 Exposition Universelle de Bruxelles. Patrick and Viviane Berko say of her, "Together with elegance and distinguished perception, the prerogative of her sex, Berthe Art adds a vigour of expression and a scheme of colors which are absolutely masculine. Though her main pencil lines contain an arrogant boldness, in her shading there is great finesse." (Berko, p. 16)
