| An artist of the Austrian school, Rieger typically painted a wide range of subjects, including interiors, landscapes, street scenes, nudes, florals and still lifes. Excelling at all of these areas, he painted in a very impressionistic manner, utilizing a very painterly brush stroke to communicate forms. His use of color is also worth noting, for he uses it to give a wonderful sense of depth to his paintings. His works are vibrant and lively, and Still life with fruit serves as a good example of his well-developed mature style in which his technique is at its best.
