A highly acclaimed artist of the Belgian school, Frank executed urban landscapes, landscapes, marine scenes, still lifes, florals, and fruits. He worked primarily in oils, but was also a rather accomplished watercolorist. Working in both the period and style of the Post-Impressionists, he studied first in Paris under the famed Daubigny, and then later traveled back to Brussels to further his artistic education there. ERROR MSG Frank began exhibiting in Paris in 1886 with smaller impressionistic landscapes and views of cities inspired both by France and Flanders. These early pieces were executed very much under the influence of Manet, whom he had met while in Paris. With his luminous use of color and freedom in his brushwork, Frank has earned himself an important place in the history of painting. Ed de Taeye says that he was, A delicate impressionist, a skillful symphonist and technicianboth a subtle and sincere landscape painter, he knows how to impart great tenderness together with obvious poetry to the landscapes which he depicts.
